The sweat is dripping off your brow after a long day playing out in the hot sun. Your energy is zapped so you reach into the cooler for a bright colored electrolyte drink. Just what your body needed right? Or maybe not. Most electrolyte drinks are full of chemicals, refined sugar, food dyes, artificial flavorings and vegetable oils. Yup, just what the doctor ordered right?

Why not try a mineral rich homemade citrus electrolyte drink that is ready in minutes? It can be made from fresh squeezed citrus, real salt, raw honey and filtered water. It’s time to replenish your body the right way. This electrolyte drink is not only for those that have been working out hard or playing in the sun for too long. If you are sick, pregnant, nursing or simply not able to stay hydrated by drinking water this drink may help. It’s time to nourish  your body the right way with real foods that contain minerals that will hydrate, soothe and heal.

Homemade Lemon Electrolyte Drink

1 quart filtered water
½ cup lemon or lime juice*
3 TBS raw honey
½ tsp Real or Celtic salt

Blend all the ingredients together in a blender until the honey dissolves.

*Another great flavor combo would be 1/4 cup orange juice and a 1/4 cup lemon juice.

  1. Here is my recipe for electrolyte drink by the glass. I include baking soda, which is a different salt that our bodies also need. This drink really perks me up when I’ve gotten dehydrated!

    My doctor actually warned me away from commercial sports drinks when I was pregnant and had very low blood pressure. He said the food coloring and other additives would not be good for me and the baby, and those drinks are a waste of money anyway–“Just drink plenty of water along with eating something salty.” Good advice!
