A few weeks ago my boss, Kate (you may know her as Modern Alternative Mama) let me know I would be getting a package from Straw Propeller Gourmet Foods. Free stuff? Yes, please! A few days later six individual servings of gourmet oatmeal arrived on my doorstep.

These were perfect for my husband and I on mornings where we were running late and he needed a quick breakfast to get out the door. The other time we really liked these were on Sunday mornings. Our church service starts at 9a, and most days my husband or I (or both) have to be there even earlier to serve in our chosen ministries, so a decent breakfast on Sunday mornings is always a challenge! Typically we just have smoothies, but it was great to have a healthy, hot option that we could also eat on the way to church.

Of the six flavors we tried, my favorite was the Cherry & Chia (because I am chia seed obsessed). The ingredient list is: rolled oats, diced cherries, organic maple sugar, chia seed, and sea salt. Five ingredients and I can pronounce all of them. Excellent!

Straw Propeller Gourmet Foods offers sixteen flavors of oatmeal and are constantly adding more to the mix. Some of the flavors do contain soy lecithin. I try to avoid all soy products, so here is a list of the soy-free varieties:

  • Fruit & Nuts
  • Cherry & Chia
  • Curry Up
  • Cranberry O’Nut
  • Wholly Oats
  • Strawberry Jungle
  • Apricot Abundance
  • Lavender & Lemon
  • Oh, My! Pumpkin Pie

I think that the Lavender & Lemon and Oh, My Pumpkin Pie look delightful! (Unfortunately they were not in my package!)

There are also three Gluten-Free flavors: Fruit & Nuts, Wholly Oats, and Apple Crisp.

As we enter the back-to-school season, these might be a great option for busy mornings and hungry kids! Their prices range from $19.50 for a 6-pack to $39 for a 12-pack.  To order your own and find out more about Straw Propeller Gourmet Foods, check out their website: http://www.strawpropellergourmetfoods.com.
